Selection Sunday: Cal Anxiously Waiting
After wrapping up the conference title against Stanfurd last week, I felt that we had to win a few games in the conference tourney to cement our NCAA Tourney position. We did that by defeating Oregon and UCLA, making it to the Pac-10 Tournament Championship game against Washington. Even after barely losing I felt we had done enough to feel comfortable come Selection Sunday. Listening to the pundits talk this morning however, I'm a bit surprised that Cal is being talked about so much in regards to possibly not making the tournament at all. Jay Bilas has us out, I haven't heard Joe Lunardi yet, Doug Gottlieb has us out, and only Clark Kellogg seems to have us in. I understand that we didn't do anything outside of the Pac-10, but we did lose to #1 Kansas, #3 Syracuse, #5 Ohio State, and #8 New Mexico. We played the Orange, Buckeyes, and Lobos without glue man Theo Robertson, and when it came time to take care of business in the conference, we did. Our SOS is 8, our RPI is 19, and we are the Pac-10 regular season champs. I would be extremely disappointed if the committee doesn't believe we deserve to go, as we were extremely close to winning our regular season and tournament championship. Congrats to Washington, as they finally started to play like everyone expected them to all season. Let's hope that the Pac-10 gets 2 teams in the tournament.
