This New York Mets player was not a very happy camper.

According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, first baseman Pete Alonso took it very hard when he heard manager Buck Showalter was being fired. Alonso had to be talked out of going directly to owner Steve Cohen to voice his displeasure with the decision.

While Alonso reportedly took it the hardest, several players such as Francisco Lindor offered praise Showalter and said they didn't like the move.

New president of baseball operations David Stearns was introduced on Monday at Citi Field and said he has nothing but respect and admiration for Showalter and what he has done for the Mets' organization.

The Mets hired Showalter as manager in December 2021, and he proceeded to serve as skipper of the team from 2022 through 2023.

In year-one, Showalter led the Mets to 101 wins and a Wild Card berth, but they were eliminated in the first-round of the postseason by the San Diego Padres. Showalter went on to win Manager of the Year for the fourth time in his career.

However, Showalter's second season in Queens was a disaster as the Mets lost 87 games and missed the playoffs, despite having lofty expectations and the highest payroll of all-time.

Showalter, 67, had one more year left on his contract, but Stearns admitted that he wanted to make a change so that he could have a new manager that starts with him at the ground floor.
