The Chicago Cubs are currently halfway through their four game series with the St. Louis Cardinals, with the teams splitting the first two games. Each of those two games has had a call made by an umpire that possibly changed the entire outcome of the game, and left some fans wondering what had just happened. Let’s take a look at each game.

The Fab 5: MLB Power Rankings 6
In this week’s addition of the Fab Five, the St. Louis Cardinals once again maintained their stranglehold on the top spot in our power rankings. Clearly the best team in all of baseball, the Cardinals show no signs of slowing down and have continued to hold off both the second-place Cincinnati Reds, as well as the third-place Pittsburgh Pirates in the increasingly competitive N...
Michael Wacha's not coming back anytime soon
After Tyler Lyons struggled in his last start, many were quick to speculate that the Cardinals might make a change in the rotation again, perhaps even bringing Michael Wacha back. However, the way they are handling their starting pitchers down at AAA Memphis tells a different story.
As reported by Derrick Goold, the Cardinals are shifting to a modified 6-man rotation down at Memphis...
Siegrist defies the odds to make MLB dream a reality
ST. LOUIS This is how Michael Girsch recalls the 41st round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
The players he and his fellow St. Louis Cardinals executives had vetted with the team's multi-tier scouting system were gone, swooped up by the Cardinals or some other team.A pool of talent had dried, and it was time to sift for potential diamonds.
Clubs were burning through the last rounds...

Is Trevor Rosenthal now pigeonholed as a reliever?
Bernie Miklasz had an interesting article today discussing the possibility of the Cardinals trading for Cliff Lee (something that I already discussed here). While an interesting analysis and one that reached the same conclusion as I did (we don't need Lee), what really caught my eye was his discussion of the 2014 starting pitching logjam.
Here's what Bernie had to say...
St. Louis Cardinals in bind after Michael Wacha demotion
The St. Louis Cardinals had their choice of two pitchers to send to the minor leagues Friday when righthanded starter Jake Westbrook returned from injury. Their decision was sure to have a short-term effect regardless, but it has suddenly put them in a tough situation that could linger until at least the All-Star break. Rookie left-handed starter Tyler Lyons stayed, while rookie...
Cardinals at the All-Star Game: Who's in, who's out?
ST. LOUIS - With no fewer than 10 Cardinals ranked among the National League's top five in homers, runs, wins, ERA or other notable stats, the STL should be well represented at the All-Star Game July 16.
All but one of the Cardinals' candidates would have to make the team to break the franchise record of eight All-Stars, set by the 1943 club that went 105-49 before losing...

Matheny sticking with rookie Lyons in starting rotation
ST. LOUIS -- Carlos Martinez has been stretched out in the minors and Joe Kelly has shown he's always up to start. But if you think either will be starting in place of rookie left-hander Tyler Lyons Friday night, think again.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny on Monday afternoon did not talk as if Lyons, who has lost his past three starts while giving up 14 runs, is in danger of...

Are the Cardinals pursuing Jonathan Papelbon?
We're not even to July yet and the rumors are already flying around the Cardinals.
The latest involves Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.Â
According to Nick Cafardo, the Phillies believe there are at least 3 teams--the Red Sox, Cardinals and Tigers--that may have some interest in their closer.
From a purely "win now" standpoint, Papelbon would make sense for the...
St.Louis Cardinals’ Yadier Molina Most Complete Catcher in Baseball
The St.Louis Cardinals are the best team in baseball and their record (44-25) reflects that this season. They also have a great pitching staff that is led by their ace pitcher Adam Wainwright and a couple of rookie pitchers in Shelby Miller, Michael Wacha and Tyler Lyons.
The one common theme that all great teams have is a catcher that can call a great game and handle the variety...
Will the St. Louis Cardinals’ young arms fade late in the year?

As the St. Louis Cardinals continue to win at a league-leading pace and their spot in the postseason becomes more and more likely, questions naturally arise about how far this team can go. The Cards, who according to MLB.com have the best on-base percentage in the National League, as well as the second-best earned run average...
St. Louis Cardinals: The Kolten Wong Problem
Joe Schwartz of StlCupOfJoe.com shares his views on Kolten Wong and what the future might hold for him. Make sure you follow Schwartz at @StlCupofJoe on Twitter
In 2011, the St. Louis Cardinals finally addressed a long-term need at second base by taking Kolten Wong with the 22nd pick of the first round in the First Year Player Draft. Just two years later, he is on the verge of making...
St. Louis Cardinals: How long can Carlos Beltran stay this hot?
The St. Louis Cardinals own baseball’s best record and look to be the most well-rounded team in all of MLB.
The Cardinals can pitch with the best of them, have shown they are solid defensively and can piece together some timely hitting to manufacture runs.
A big part of the Cardinals success this season has been the unexpected play of Carlos Beltran, who after Saturday’s two...
Pete Kozma, Michael Wacha and the . . . Play of the Decade?
(The following is a guest column written by The Cardinal Nation blog regular blingboy.)
It is Tuesday night and first-round phenom Michael Wacha faces what is likely a pivotal moment in his fledgling career. Having breezed through his debut allowing one run and two hits over seven innings, he lasted only 4 2/3 giving up 10 hits and 6 runs in his second start. Velocity and control...
