Pair Of Cardinals Prospects Set To Participate In Futures All-Star Game

The 2023 All-Star weekend is steadily approaching and teams are looking for players to represent their organizations at the Futures All-Star Game.

Started back in 1999 as a way to attract attention for minor-league affiliates and round out All-Star weekend festivities, the Futures All-Star Game showcases affiliate prospects from all Major League Baseball teams playing in a seven-inning AL vs. NL exhibition game. 

This year, the Red Birds have selected two prospects who began their 2023 season in Class High-A Peoria, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Daniel Guerrero.

"Right-handed pitcher Tink Hence and outfielder Victor Scott II were both selected to represent the Cardinals in the All-Star Futures Game in Seattle, it was announced Monday."

At the young age of 20, Hence has worked his way up from the Florida Complex League and is showing promise early on in his career.

Hence is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA, 42-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .210 batting average against and 1.03 WHIP in 40 innings pitched for the High-A Peoria Chiefs this season.

Scott II is best known for his hot set of wheels as he has an impressive 50 steals on the season for Peoria.

The 22-year-old centerfielder is hitting .282 with 19 extra-base hits including two home runs, 29 RBIs and a .763 OPS in 66 games played for the Chiefs this season.

In a season where Cardinals fans are distraught over their favorite ball club's performance, perhaps we will see two future stars showcase their potential this All-Star Weekend.

The present it murky but the future is bright in St. Louis.
