Packers' Jordan Love focused on chemistry, not contract

Jordan Love knows he's going to get paid by the Green Bay Packers.

He has every reason to believe that he's the future of the team after throwing for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns (11 interceptions) last season while leading the Packers to the divisional round of the playoffs.

He somehow did it. He's "the guy" who replaced "the guy" (Aaron Rodgers) who replaced "the guy" (Brett Favre).

He signed a one-year contract extension last season when the Packers were unsure if he was going to be able to replace Rodgers, but they wanted him to have a shot to prove himself.

Now that he's proved himself, though? Well frankly, from his perspective, every snap he takes this offseason is dangerous. If he gets hurt while preparing for what could be a Super Bowl run in 2024, he could be losing out on a ton, long-term.

That's why some players in Love's situation choose to sit out OTAs, which are optional.

For his part, though, Love has been in attendance at OTAs just like he has been every offseason of his young career. For him, now that he's "the guy," it's about the chemistry of the team. The contract part will come.

"I mean that's just something that I've always done — trying to be here, get the reps in, get the work in with the guys and just start building that chemistry and getting ready for the season," Love said, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

It's not like Love is completely oblivious to the financial implications of playing without a long-term deal. He did tell the media that his agent hasn't told him to sit out without a long-term deal, but he was specifically asked if he would not play in 2024 without a new contract and he wasn't as clear.

"We'll see," Love said Tuesday. "I don't know yet. We'll see."

It's in Green Bay's best interest to pay Love, so this is a deal that will get done sooner rather than later — potentially even before training camp.

Per Spotrac, Love's value could be in the four-year, $191 million range ($47.8 million per year).

It's worth noting that division rival Jared Goff just signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the Detroit Lions worth an average of $53 million a year.
